Coastal change isn’t a distant challenge; it’s happening now, and the communities living along our shorelines are already feeling its impact. The question is how we adapt in ways that work for both people and nature.

That’s why we’ve been appointed to lead the creative delivery of Changing Tides: A community guide to a resilient coast, working in close collaboration with RSPB Cymru on this year-long project. Together, we’ll bring communities, conservationists, landowners, and decision-makers into the conversation to explore how the Dyfi Estuary can adapt to the challenges of a changing climate in ways that work for both people and nature.

It is an extraordinary place rich in wildlife, culture, and community spirit, and internationally recognised for its habitats and species. The estuary forms part of the Dyfi UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is home to RSPB Ynys-hir, one of the most important wetland reserves in Wales, supporting wintering Greenland white-fronted geese, breeding waders, and a wide range of estuarine and wetland species. Yet it also faces urgent challenges from sea-level rise, tidal surges, and shifting coastlines.

At the heart of Changing Tides is co-design. We believe the best solutions aren’t handed down from a boardroom, they’re shaped in collaboration with the people who know the place best. Together, we’ll bring local voices, scientific insight, and creative thinking into the same space to imagine and plan for a more resilient coastline.

Our role will be to support the conditions for those conversations to thrive, ensuring every voice is heard, every perspective considered, and every decision grounded in lived experience and environmental expertise. The solutions that emerge will be shaped by the community, for the community, and built to last.

Changing Tides will be a bilingual project, ensuring that Welsh and English-speaking communities can participate fully and benefit equally from the resources and discussions it creates.

This isn’t just about protecting a coastline. It’s about strengthening connections between people and place, sparking collaboration across sectors, and showing that when creativity and co-design come together, change becomes something we build, not something that happens to us.

We’re looking forward to working closely with RSPB Cymru, Tir Canol, and all the partners and communities involved to bring this vision to life.
