Working with Oxfam to build a fairer society through Tax Justice Scotland

Scotland is a wealthy country, but across the nation, inequalities run deep. One in 5 people live in poverty, public services are badly stretched, and climate targets are being missed.
A tax system that favours the rich
Tax inequality is a contributing factor to these problems. Right now, income from work is taxed more than income from wealth, meaning the richest aren’t paying their share.
This imbalance means vital public services like healthcare, education, and housing don’t get the funding they need, deepening inequalities across communities and holding Scotland back from being a fairer, more equal society.
National campaign pushing for bold tax changes
That’s where Tax Justice Scotland comes in. This campaign, spearheaded by Oxfam GB, is dedicated to tackling these issues, advocating for a tax system that works for everyone. They want to spark real change, starting with conversations about why tax matters and how it can make a difference to our everyday lives.
In collaboration with Oxfam GB, we designed a briefing report, an explainer video for their website and social media, and graphics for social media to highlight the pressing issue of tax inequality. These resources shed light on how tax inequality affects people across Scotland and why change is so urgently needed.
The campaign was launched in November 2024, and backed by 50-plus Scottish civil society organisations, trade unions, economists, and academics, showing unity in their mission and the power of collective action.
Serving as a blueprint for driving positive change
Tax Justice Scotland’s work not only addresses the pressing issue of tax inequality within Scotland but also sets an example for the rest of the UK.
From exposing how tax avoidance harms public services to pushing for fairer policies, they’re leading the way in showing how a better approach to tax could create a brighter future for all of us.
