Tackling climate change requires more than just policy – it needs a movement that brings together people, organisations and communities, giving everyone a clear and meaningful way to take part.

That was the ambition behind Climate Cymru, a coalition brand representing hundreds of organisations and thousands of individuals across Wales, all united in calling for urgent and fair climate action. Our role was to create the brand and website that would turn this ambition into a reality.

A brand that acts as a call to action

We designed a bold, modern identity that was simple, memorable and distinctive. The dot between Climate and Cymru was more than a design feature. It was also the campaign’s web address, turning the logo itself into a call to action. Every time people saw the brand, they also saw where to go to get involved.

We wanted to create something young people would be proud to stand behind. The vibrant colour palette, confident typography and contemporary design direction broke away from the muted tones of traditional environmental branding. It carried a positive, forward-looking message, a brand about shaping the future rather than dwelling on fear.

Four colourful cards (red, yellow, teal, orange) with the black text Climate. Cymru are floating against a grey background.
A person in a red jacket stands on a grassy hill with yellow flowers, looking at a blue sky with clouds. Large white graphic shapes overlay the image in the foreground. A blue reusable water bottle with a white design and the words Climate Cymru printed on it sits on a rocky surface, with the sea and sky blurred in the background. A person wearing a striped beanie stands by a calm lake, looking at misty hills reflected in the water, with a large abstract white shape on the right side of the image. A hand holds a green and white tote bag with the words Climate. Cymru printed on it, against a lush background of green leafy plants. Two vertical banners on a pole read Climate. Cymru in white text; one banner is red with a blue design, the other blue with a red design. The sky is clear and blue in the background. A black T-shirt on a wooden hanger features the text Climate. Cymru in turquoise on the left chest and a large turquoise letter C design on the lower right side. The background is plain light grey.

A website built for mobilisation

Accessible, inclusive and rooted in Welsh identity, the fully bilingual Climate Cymru website was designed to inform. But it was also built to mobilise.

At its heart was a clear, simple action: Add your voice. Visitors could choose what they wanted to protect, from future generations and local wildlife to food security and their own communities. This made every contribution feel personal and meaningful.

A platform for young voices

Climate Cymru was always about people, and especially the next generation. Young Ambassadors were given space on the site to share their stories and perspectives, showing that this was not only a campaign for young people but one led by them.

By putting youth voices at the centre, the brand demonstrated that climate action is not abstract or distant, but something that belongs to real people in Wales today.

A laptop and a smartphone display the same colourful website with the headline “A movement for change…” and images of smiling people, both resting on a white marble table in a bright, modern space.
A tablet with a website open, displaying an article with text, an image of a polar bear on snow, and sections for other articles, lying on a light grey concrete surface.
A magazine titled Wales at COP26: Voices for Change with greenery-covered COP26 letters and an Earth image on the cover rests on a concrete surface near green plants.
An open magazine on a stone surface shows a young woman in a blue shirt on one page and a quotation about the future and young people on the other, with plants and textured ground visible nearby.

Impact

This project showed how design can do more than just inform: It can mobilise.

Climate Cymru quickly established itself as one of the most recognisable climate movements in Wales. The brand and website gave hundreds of organisations a shared identity to stand behind, and thousands of individuals a simple way to take part.

  • More than 390 organisations joined the coalition within the first year.
  • Thousands of people added their voice through the website, each choosing what mattered most to them.
  • The fully bilingual platform ensured participation was open to everyone across Wales.
  • Young Ambassadors were showcased on the site, amplifying youth voices and inspiring their peers.
  • The brand was adopted and shared widely by partners, appearing across events, campaigns and the media.

Together, these outcomes helped create a visible, collective movement for climate justice in Wales. What began as an idea quickly became a unifying platform that turned concern into action and action into influence.
